Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Vedic astrology and using Astrosidda.
What is Vedic astrology and how is it different from Western astrology?
Vedic astrology (Jyotish) is an ancient Indian system based on the sidereal zodiac — the actual positions of constellations in the sky. Western astrology uses the tropical zodiac, fixed to the seasons. This means your Vedic sun sign may differ from your Western sun sign by about 23°. Vedic astrology places greater emphasis on the Moon sign (Rasi) and Ascendant (Lagna) than on the Sun sign.
What is a Rasi Palan (daily horoscope)?
Rasi Palan is a daily prediction based on your Moon sign (Rasi). Unlike Western horoscopes that use your Sun sign, Vedic daily horoscopes are based on the transit of the Moon and other planets relative to your birth Moon sign. Astrosidda generates fresh Rasi Palan every day for all 12 signs in Tamil, English, and other languages.
What is Ashtakoot matchmaking (Porutham)?
Ashtakoot is the traditional Vedic system for assessing marriage compatibility. It evaluates 8 factors (Koota) between two birth charts, with a maximum score of 36 points. A score above 18 is considered acceptable; above 24 is considered good. Astrosidda calculates all 8 Kootas and also checks for Mangal Dosha (Mars affliction), which can affect marital harmony.
What is Muhurta?
Muhurta is the practice of selecting auspicious dates and times for important events — marriages, business launches, travel, property purchase, etc. Astrosidda's Muhurta calculator considers Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (birth star), Yoga, Karana, and Tara Balam (star strength) to find the most favorable windows.
What is Gochara (planetary transit)?
Gochara refers to the movement of planets through the zodiac and their effect on your natal chart. Astrosidda calculates transit effects for all 9 Vedic planets relative to your birth Moon sign, including the effects of Sade Sati (7.5-year Saturn transit), Ashtama Shani (8th-house Saturn), and Guru Gochar (Jupiter transit).
What is a Dasha period?
Dasha is a planetary period system unique to Vedic astrology. Each planet rules a period of your life for a fixed number of years (the Vimshottari Dasha system spans 120 years total). The planet ruling your Dasha period influences major life themes during that time. Astrosidda shows your current Maha Dasha, Antara Dasha, and Pratyantar Dasha.

How much do the PDF reports cost?
PDF reports are priced at ₹49–₹149 in India. For international users, most reports are $0.99–$1.99 USD, with prices shown automatically in GBP, AUD, CAD, SGD, or EUR based on your location. The Detailed Horoscope (₹149) is our most comprehensive report.
What is included in the Detailed Horoscope PDF?
The Detailed Horoscope (₹149) includes: Rasi & Navamsa charts, all planet positions with degrees, Bhava (house) analysis for all 12 houses, major Yogas and their effects, Varga (divisional) charts, Ashtakavarga points, Vimshottari Dasha timeline, and lucky elements (color, number, gemstone). It is a comprehensive 10–15 page Kundli report.
How do I find my Nakshatra for baby names?
Your baby's Nakshatra is determined by the Moon's position at the time of birth. Enter the birth date, time, and place in the Baby Names tool. Astrosidda will identify the Nakshatra and recommend names starting with the appropriate syllables (Aksharas) for that Nakshatra — in both Tamil and Sanskrit traditions.
What is a Panchangam?
Panchangam (Panchang) is the Hindu almanac that records the five elements of each day: Tithi (lunar day), Vara (weekday), Nakshatra (star), Yoga, and Karana. Astrosidda's Panchangam shows today's full Panchang with sunrise/sunset times, Rahu Kalam, Yamagandam, and Gulika Kalam.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is needed to use the free tools (Rasi Palan, Dasha, Baby Names, Panchangam). An account is required to use the AI Astrologer (to save chat history and manage credits) and to access saved birth data across sessions.
What is a Gemstone Report?
The Gemstone Report analyzes your birth chart to recommend the most beneficial gemstones based on your Lagna (Ascendant) and planetary strengths. It includes recommended stones, metals, mantras, and remedies to strengthen favorable planets and mitigate malefic ones, following traditional Jyotish gem therapy guidelines.
